Kate Middleton is back once again. The Princess of Wales made a surprise public appearance alongside husband Prince William on October 10—her second after announcing the completion of her chemotherapy treatment on September 9.
The royal couple made an unannounced visit to the city of Southport, where on three children were killed in a mass stabbing on July 29 at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party. The Prince and Princess of Wales met with fire, ambulance, air ambulance, and police services at the Southport Community Centre, where they learned what it was like for the officials to respond to the tragic attack and how it has affected their mental health. The visit coincided with World Mental Health Day, and in the time since the attack, the royals have provided the responders with assistance.
The visit to Southport comes after William and Middleton met privately with the families of the three children who were murdered in the July 29 attack, as well as the dance teacher who was present. During the tragic event, 10 individuals were left injured; the 17-year-old responsible has since been changed with the murder of the three girls.

For the occasion, Middleton wore a brown, tea-length peacoat, which she paired with a maroon, polka-dotted pussy-bow top. She kept her accessories minimal, but they had a touching connection to her September 9 cancer update video. She wore dangling gold earrings in the shape of ferns, the plant which makes several appearances in the touching clip—the leaves symbolize new life, endurance, and resilience.
"As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment," Middleton said in the video. "The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown."

Elsewhere in the video, Middleton explained that her health is her top priority, but she is looking forward to making public appearances and continue her royal duties once more.
"Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes," she said. "I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can."
"Despite all that has gone before I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life," Middleton concluded. "William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling."
